Global warming has many obvious factors, such as the warming of the globe (earth), which has an effect on most of the things on the planet, such as melting of ice caps, and causing wildfires, and wiping out certain species of animals which cannot stand the higher temperatures. Though the world will only rise by about 6 ºC, it will have a major effect on the ways of life on the planet. Take a look through this page to find out some of the weird and worrying evidence of global warming. Some of the sections below contain Windows Media Player videos and flash videos/animations. The windows media player videos will require windows media player 7 or above, to download the latest windows media player, click here (for Windows). The flash videos/animations will require Macromedia Flash Player 6 or above. To download the latest Flash Player, click here (for Windows) or here (for Mac). Both Players are free to download and use!
The ice in the North and South poles is melting, which will cause sea levels to rise. When the sea levels rise, land will become more crowded because the oceans will be covering parts of land. Animals is the north and south poles won't be able to live anywhere, because it will be too warm for them, and there will be barely any ice for them to live on. The more we pump out greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, the warmer the earth will be, and the more the ice will melt. We can already see evidence of melting ice, in videos, pictures, and we can go to see it! When all the ice has gone, species of animals, such as penguins, polar bears and the arctic fox, will become extinct. Species of animals will then die because areas of the food chain are dead (Producer > Extinct > Extinct because this animal has no food)
Every year the worlds sees a warming summer than the year before. This is one obvious sign of global warming. In the year of 2004 the UK saw a top temperature of about 31.5 °C, and then in the year of 2005, the UK of a higher top temperature of 33.1 °C. If this carries on for the next few years, in the year 2009-2010, we will be seeing temperatures of about 40-45 °C during the summer. The years of 2006 and 7 didn't see much snow in the winter either, with there being on one or two snowfalls in the entire winter. The world is rapidly heating up, but we can slow it down. The build-up of the heat is caused by greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere, but not being able to escape from the atmosphere, because of the O-zone layer trapping in the gases. As the greenhouse gases build up, the worlds temperature increases, which is known as global warming.
